Nizhny Novgorod airport is one of the oldest in the country. The first regular flight in Russia from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod was taken July 15, 1923. From 1993 the airport has international status, certified for all types of aviation activities. It is the alternate airport for airports of the Moscow aviation hub.
